Putting seems so easy. You make a short swing with very little force. However, the truth is that putting, like any other golf shot, is difficult. By difficult, I don’t mean it’s demanding on your strength or mental reserves but that it’s just as demanding as a fast-moving full swing in the precision required to be highly proficient. Indeed, you must develop a multidimensional skill set in order to be a great putter. For instance, you need the physical skills to aim the putter and your body correctly, to swing the putter on the proper path, to have the correct face relationship to get the ball started on the intended line and to hit the ball with your intended speed.
You also must have green-reading skills. You need to be able to interpret the grain of the grass, the influence of the water and wind, the distance of the putt and the speed you intend to roll the ball. These aspects help you define the line on which you’ll roll the ball.
You need to be proficient at all of these skills in order to have a great chance to make the putt and shoot your lowest round ever.
