Too many golfers have fallen in love with their high-lofted wedges to the point where they are using them for shots in which they should be kept in the bag. A prime case in point is the long chip shot, where you have 50 or more feet from the edge of the green to the hole. Using a pitching wedge and trying to gauge where to land it and how much spin it will have when it does land is very difficult to judge for even the best professionals. You can never be sure how much spin you will get on the shot, and this affects the amount of roll out it will get. You might hit the shot out of longish fringe, and it will run out hot and go too far. Or you might nip it a little too neatly from a tight lie, and it will land and hardly roll at all afterward.
